The Operatic Sound of Andrea Bocelli
The red carpet was alive with the sound of operatic melodies as Jackie Watson, the french reporter made her rounds at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion/Los Angeles Music Center.
Legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli and renowned soprano Renée Fleming headlined a spectacular benefit concert and gala dinner to celebrate the life and legacy of the most outstanding tenor of his day, the beloved Luciano Pavarotti, who died tragically of pancreatic cancer.
The benefit raised over $3 million. All proceeds will go toward the funding of pancreatic cancer research.
Jackie had the privilege of speaking with Dr. Diane M. Simeone about the causes of pancreatic cancer. According to Dr. Simeone, smoking is the number one risk factor of pancreatic cancer. Processed foods, obesity and diabetes are also contributing factors. Finding a cure for this type of cancer is detrimental. ‘If new evidence is not found by the year 2020,’ stated Dr. Simeone, ‘pancreatic cancer will become the second leading cause of death in the U.S.’
Jackie also had the privilege of speaking with the concerts music producer, Barry Tucker and his wife Joan. Jackie spoke with other event attendees and celebrities such as Hesry Love, Dr. William H. Isacoff and Victoria Manax Rutson, M.D., and Nicole Robinov.
Overall, the gala was a success but the night was not complete without a little harmonizing from Jackie. Jackie bravely sang along as Mari Carr and David Hadley, among others, attempted to sing their favorite Andrea Bocelli song. And though her singing may have sounded a bit off key to the untrained ear, we know our Jackie was in perfect harmony … ok so maybe she was a little off key, but overall it was … not bad. Perhaps Jackie will be living La Vie En Rose as the next Edith Piaf.
Nightcap: We would like to applaud Jackie as she successfully obtained one uttered word from celebrity attendee Goldie Hawn; ‘LIFE.’
